Bamberg's fine town planning earned it a place on Unesco's list of world heritage sites.
Unlike Nuremberg and Würzburg, Bamberg survived the Second World War virtually unscathed. In 1994, Bamberg's old town was ceremoniously named a Unesco "World Heritage Site".
