The castle museum of the "Neuschwanstein of the north" shows a 19th century residential castle.
The castle was built in 1120, rebuilt on numerous occasions and extended until Prince Otto of Stolberg-Wernigerode, vice chancellor under Otto von Bismarck, initiated complete rebuilding in the style of historicism between 1862 and 1883.
