The Coptic Museum is connected to the church El-Moallaka. It was founded in 1910 by Morkos (Marcus) Simaika Pasha (1864 – 1944) and has the most significant collection of its kind. The building was constructed at the beginning of the 20th century incorporating old Coptic architectural parts and was later expanded.Aside from religious art, the museum also has interesting craft objects and everyday items from the 3rd to the 18th centuries, particularly from the early Middle Ages. North-east of the Coptic Museum stands the Amr Mosque (actually the Amr-Ibn-el-As Mosque), which is regarded as the oldest mosque in Cairo, even though its present-day structure largely originated in the 18th century. It was here that Amr Ibn el-As had the first mosque of Fustat built in 642; the building underwent early expansions.
