Bad Schandau is a town of Germany, in the southern Free State of Saxony, district Sächsische Schweiz. It is situated on the right bank of the Elbe, at the mouth of the little valley of the Kirnitzsch.
It is ca. 6 kilometers from the Czech frontier (Czech name is Žandov), 33 km southeast of Dresden on the railway to Děčín.
Bad Schandau has an Evangelical parish church, a hydropathic establishment and a school of river navigation. The position of Bad Schandau in the heart of the romantic Saxon Switzerland has made it a place of importance, and thousands of tourists make it their headquarters in summer. For their accommodation numerous hotels and villas have been erected. The chief manufactures of the town are artificial flowers and furniture. The prefix "Bad" was added in the 19th century to designate the spa status of the town ("bad" meaning "bath" in German). (...) more....
