The traditional shop has been in operation since 1777; if the lore is to be believed, the 27th Sultan of the Ottoman Empire used candy from Haci Bekir to persuade his harem ladies to perform their tasks. To this day, visitors marvel at the endless selection of Turkish delicacies, which are arrayed on silver trays: candies, chocolates in unusual varieties, or "lokum" (Turkish delight) in every conceivable color.
