Haight-Ashbury was one of the centers of the alternative 60ies culture - here the beatniks found their base and the S.F. students their home. Today, the neighborhood does not live quite up to its past, although you can still find traces of it. Browse through clothing and book stores, meet up with the locals, and inhale some of the old smells still around.

This neighbourhood has gone through a lot of changes over the years. It was a hippie spot back in the day, but then Gap moved in (didn't last long) and it got pretty yuppified. Today it's not exactly bohemian, but there are lots of cute coffeeshops and boutiques. It's also right next to Golden gate Park.
