Wat Chiang Man

Wat Chiang Man

by cristina tripwolf

The oldest temple in Chiang Mai

Built in 1306 by King Mangrai, Wat Chiang Man is the home of the famous Crystal Buddha - legend says that it has the power to protect against disaster. Though the statue itself is barely 4 inches high, its base and canopy pack a punch, weighing in at over 14 pounds. Another Buddha in the temple, the Marble Buddha, is said to have the power to bring rain; this is celebrated every year during the Songkran festival.
