Located on the National Mall - though unaffiliated with the Smithsonian - the National Gallery is one of the finest art museums in the country. Famed for its paintings and sculptures from European masters, the East building houses modern art and the West building houses everything else. Titian, Vermeer, Rembrandt, Picasso and all the big names can be found here; the National Gallery also boasts the only Leonardo painting in the Americas.
