The Lincoln Memorial is a 19-foot tall marble statue of a seated Abraham Lincoln, the 16th President of the United States. Symbolizing freedom and the unity of the North and South, the Lincoln Memorial has been the site of many historic rallies, most notably the March on Washington in 1963; Martin Luther King, Jr. delivered his "I Have a Dream" speech to 250,000 protesters from here. The statue is housed in a massive, Greek-style temple, the walls of which are inscribed with Lincoln's two most famous speeches: the Gettysburg Address and Lincoln's second inaugural address.
