The name of the park means country house - Philipp II had one converted in the middle of the 16th century on the western outskirts of Madrid to create a hunting lodge. The associated royal hunting estate was declared a public park in 1931.
great .. just great. i'm an austrian mountainbiking addict who spends a great part of the year living in madrid/spain. since i know that great and huge park there's no more cold turkey. i can take up my mountainbike sessions as i do in vienna.
