It used to be the haunt of popes, emperors and whores - nowadays Constance is a great place to wander around with lots of shops and wine bars set against a historic backdrop.
The largest town on Lake Constance is an important cultural centre with a university and a lively theatre and music scene. The picturesque Old Town extends between the Rhine and the Swiss border. Lots of well-preserved sights dating from the Middle Ages adorn the traditional townscape.
