Koblenz was founded in 9 B.C. by the Romans to secure the crossing over the Mosel and most recently was badly destroyed in the Second World War. The heart of the Old Town was rebuilt based on the historic model and this included the Romanesque basilica of Saint Castor and Saint Florin's Church.
