Almost 500 buildings are preserved from the historic town of Halberstadt with its half-timbered houses. They include the Romanesque Liebfrauenkirche and the cathedral, which was built in the north-German Gothic era. Its treasures including many Byzantine pieces is one of Europe's most significant.
