A stroll along the promenade today shows how chic and liberal things used to be in the resort of Heringsdorf. It attracted the German Emperor as well as lots of artists. The painter Lyonel Feininger spent several summers at Villa Oppenheim, and Maxim Gorki stayed at Villa Irmgard.
