Former German capital, student city & "Telekom Valley"
The former capital of Germany has lots to offer - even after the move of the German Government to Berlin - for example the "Museumsmeile" (Museum Mile), a line up of the most interesting museums including the Art Museum and Museum of German History.
From Cologne's Central Station trains or the U16 take you to downtown Bonn within 35 to 40 minutes and by car via Autobahn A555 it's only 30km. Bonn's city landmark is the Münsterbasilika a historic church dating back to 1738, located about 5 minutes walk from Bonn's train station. Bonn in general is strongly influenced by the Baroque Period: when Elector Clemens August took over power in 1723 he completed the residence palace (Residenzschloss) which has been home to Bonn's university since the 19th century. The Poppelsdorfer Palace Clemensruhe dates back to the same era (1753) and is also part of the scenic university landscape - a paradise for students!
