Following destruction in the Second World War, only a small amount of Old Kiel was preserved. The city's landmark is the town hall tower, at a height of 106 m. A maritime atmosphere is created by Germany's largest passenger port - most of the ferries leave for Scandinavia and the Baltic from here.
