In lively Altstätten one can see old arcaded houses on the Marktgasse. The Church of St Nicholas was consecrated in 1789. On Gerbergasse the Prestegg Museum contains an historic interior and sacred art. Neu-Altstätten Castle was rebuilt after being destroyed in the 15th century.
