St. Gallen

St. Gallen (Saint-Gall; San Gallo) is the capital of the canton of St. Gallen in Switzerland. It evolved from the hermitage of Saint Gall, founded in the 7th century. Today, it is a large urban agglomeration (with around 160,000 inhabitants) and represents the center of eastern Switzerland. The town mainly relies on services for its economic base.

I was here for 3 days in the end of June. When I went in '09, the weather was rainy but warm. I attended Open Air, a three day concert in which you camp out there from the beginning of the festival till the end. I was a trash hero in which i picked up the trash around the stages of the various stages. seeing as how it rained for a whole day on saturday and half the day on sunday, it was hard work having to walk around and dig stuff out of the mud. plus the airline had lost my luggage so i was left with flip flops, a pair of jeans, and a t-shirt for 3 days. PLAN AHEAD! if you plan on going to open air, it was NOT fun walking around for 3 days in adidas flip flops. i'll never wear those shoes again after my experience. but despite all the rain, and that me and my friends had to sleep on a hill with all the other staffers and underneath the shadow of my friends friends tent, the experience was so memorable. if i can say that after all the crap that i had to go through with the mud and one outift and shoes that cut my feet, then you can take it to the bank that Open Air is worth it. the bands were amazing, seeing one after the other performing live. the air is electrified with the constant excitment of the crowds and the bands. the food and drinks are expensive fyi. i got to a taste for foreign bands after Open Air, my musical taste further expanded and I discovered a whole other side to music that I had been missing out on. I swear Open Air is something that must be experienced for one to understand. Its a downright exciting, crazy, and fun. the camping out is something that is unusual with most concerts and after OpenAir, I wish that all concerst were like that. I didnt see anything else in St. Gallen unofrtunately but what I could see form the bus, the buildings were historic looking with beautiful architecture!
