The many outsiders passing through the area led to Dinant being founded at the base of steep cliffs in the Upper Meuse Valley. The Church of Notre-Dame is an attractive sight at the foot of the citadel rock. From there, visitors can travel by cable car to the fortress. Guided tours are available.
