Meinl am Graben is a Vienna landmark. This is a gourmet delicatessen if there ever was one. Founded by the coffee trader, Julius Meinl in 1861, it still has relics of its colonial associations, not least of it the trademark black boy in a fez, serving coffee. However, within those doors is a world of gastronomic wonders; wines, cheeses, sweets and of course coffee. This is a great place to shop for something to take back for friends and family. There is also an excellent restaurant on the premises. The prices are high, in keeping with the standards of Vienna's first district, but unless you're blue blooded, you won't be walking in everyday and the expense is justified.
