Travelers, spa visitors, and connoisseurs can not get past Villach
The second-largest town in Carinthia is also known as "the railway town." Here cross the Southern railway line from Vienna, the Tauern route from Salzburg, and lines leading to Italy and Slovenia.
A good portion of Villachers make their living from the railway, directly or indirectly. Even the main highways meet in Villach. From the junction to the east, the routes go to Italy and, via the Karawanken Tunnel, to Slovenia. Villach is also the Carnival capital of Austria. The traditional "Carnival of Fools" guild meetings are broadcast on TV every year and always get top ratings. Villach is also called the "Draustadt," as the main river of Carinthia, the Drava (Drau in German), flows through the city. On it an excursion boat operates in the summer months.
