The royal palace forms a closed quadrant of granite and opens out towards an inner courtyard. The entrance leads via an imposing stairwell to the main floor where you first walk into the Hellebardiere room. The rooms of Charles III which adjoin this are a highlight of any visit.
The royals live here to this day, and while the large courtyards surrounding the palace are bleakly barren, this place is pretty cool from the inside. I especially liked the old-fashioned apothecary inside.
