Chechnya has been settled for over 100,000 years! Cave paintings have been found dating back to 125,000 BC. The strong culture of this small region lives on. Lying next to Georgia, there is agreat MIddle Eastern influence on culture. When the Soviet Union fell in 1991, Chechnya tried to gain its independence in a series of small wars, but failed.
