Manchuria (Romanized Manchu: Manju, 满洲; 滿洲; Mǎnzhōu, Маньчжурия, Mongolian: Манж) is a historical name given to a vast geographic region in northeast Asia. Depending on the definition of its extent, Manchuria either falls entirely within China, or is divided between China and Russia. The region is commonly referred to as Northeast China (東北; Dongbei), and historically referred as Guandong (關東; Guandong, which literally means "the east of Shanhai Pass.")
This region is the traditional homeland of the Xianbei, Khitan, and Jurchen people, who built several dynasties in northern China. The region is also the home of the Manchus, after whom Manchuria is named. In the 17th century, the Manchus ruled China until the collapse of the Qing Dynasty in 1911. (...) more....
