An amazing symbiosis of nature and architecture
The absolute highlight of every Jordan trip is a visit to the ancient city of Petra. The sandstone, which is lit in shades of purple, red, pink, yellow, beige and brown lights, is impressive, as are the deep canyons and the Wadis.
The Nabataeans have brought their great architecture in harmony with nature: in the pink rock they carved the walls of their temples, treasuries, houses, and tombs. Some 800 monuments have been preserved in Petra and its surroundings. The entrance to the rock city is located in the village of Wadi Musa, in which the hotels are strung together. Since 2007, Petra is one of the seven "new wonders of the world."
