The Mönchsberg is a mountain ridge approx. 2 km long and 60 m high, which rises up over the old town. Remains of the city defenses are here. Good views over the city from the mountain.

The Untersberg is with around 1800m the highest mountain surrounding Salzburg and is known for it's great views and the dangerous 'Dopplersteig' with endless steep steps.
