There are hotels and riads in Fès to suit all budgets, including some very luxurious ones in and around the tangled lanes of the médina – certainly the best place to stay if you want to get a real feel of old Fès. If you want to stay in a riad, a reservation is essential and someone will be sent to meet you.

New riads are opening all the time, and they tend to be owned by a slightly younger crowd than in Marrakech. Fès also has a disproportionate number of British riad owners compared to other Moroccan cities. Fez Riads, T035-637713, http://www.fez-riads.com, is an excellent agency offering luxury accommodation in the médina.
