city / town

There are many excellent restaurants in Córdoba; some of these are in the Judería where there are also several establishments seeking only to fob tourists off with a frozen paella and glass of watery sangría. Not all the touristy restaurants are bad; just remember that a locale popular with Córdobans has no need to solicit business on the street. There’s also a proud tapas scene here; the best places are tabernas, generally long-standing establishments serving traditional bites with a glass of Montilla or Moriles wine. These have to be tracked down, as they’re scattered over a fairly wide area. While visitors understandably enjoy the tapas bars of the atmospheric Judería, many locals prefer the zones around Plaza Corredera, or near the El Corte Inglés department store a few blocks north of the old town, especially around C Fray Luis de León. Things wind up much earlier here than in the rest of Spain; many tapas bars pull the shutters down at 2200 or so midweek.
