Arts and craftsCuzco has some of the best craft shopping in all Peru. In the Plaza San Blas and the surrounding area, authentic Cuzco crafts still survive and woodworkers can be seen in almost any street. A market is held on Sat. The main market for artisans’ stalls is at the bottom of Av Sol. There are also small markets of 10 or so permament stalls dotted around the city that offer goods made from alpaca as well as modern materials.Cuzco is also the weaving centre of Peru and excellent textiles can be found at good value; but watch out for sharp practices when buying gold and silver objects and jewellery. Note that much of the wood used for picture frames, etc, is cedro, a rare timber not extracted by sustainable means.
