Most accommodation on the island is simple, with home-cooked meals. Sandflies can be a problem so take mosquito coils. Expect to pay more for mosquito nets and electricity. Inevitably, beachfront chalets cost more. Due to stiff competition, many prices are negotiable. For more luxurious resorts, check their websites in advance for specials deals; you can find some real bargains, especially in low season. Be wary of buying the much proffered packages from travel agents in Mersing. Better deals are to be had on the island, despite what the agents claim.
