Florence is a city built on artistic roots. Home to Michelangelo's David, the Medici family, and one of the most beautiful and impressive duomo's in Italy, Florence brings out the romantic in any visitor. Simply walking the streets is a walk through the Renaissance. Some of the best ways to see the culture are to sit in the Piazza's on the steps of Santo Spirito or Santa Croce and people watch. Though touristy, the Uffizi Gallery is a must visit - you'll see paintings written about in every art history book. Get an Amici degli Uffizi Card from the office across the street (Sala Reali Poste, Cortile degli Uffizi, 40-60 euros) - it may seem expensive, but you can get into almost every museum, and without waiting in the long lines!
