Varese Culture and Sights

The Basilica of San Vittore was constructed in the XVI century designed by Pellegrino Tibaldi. It has a Neoclassical facade by Leopold Pollack (1791) and Baroque belltower.

Various works on canvas or wood from XV to XIX centuries, porcelain and ceramics from 1600's and 1700's; hangings and codes; ancient and Renaissance coins.

Inside the Castle there is a gallery of contemporary art from 1900's to present times and the electronic Muel museum, where one can consult the art archives.

An archaeological section structured didactically with findings from the Isolino Virginia and a gallery housing four centuries of Italian and local art.

It was built over a church of remote origins and designed by Bartolomeo Gadio, who maintained the three apse plan from the previous building and extended the right nave.

The Castello di Masnago was cons- tructed in the Middle Ages. It is situated in the Masnago district, recently restored, and considered as the city's future second museum centre.

The Civic Museums are currently housed inside Villa Mirabello, constructed in the XVIII-XIX century, once Litta Modignani. Comprises interesting collections.

This church, from the second half of the XVI cent., has a facade which was made over in 1725 and precious interior decorations. Noteworthy 17th century frescoes by G. B. Del Sole.

This imposing belltower is the work of Bernasconi, who completed it in 1773. Numerous Baroque paintings are contained within, almost all from the Milanese school.
