Lausanne Culture and Sights

Since 1726 the Fontaine de la Justice ("Fountain of Justice") has infused life into Place de la Palud. According to citizens of Lausanne, it inspired the adjacent City Hall.

This palace was erected between 1898-1906 in the neo-Renaissance style. It encompasses art, archaeol. and natural history museums, a library (700,000 vols.) and the famous Medal Cabinet.

Art gallery dedicated mainly to the Impressionists. Artists from Vaud Canton and painters of world repute are represented here. 2-3 exhibitions annually.

The art history of Vaud canton from late 18th century to the 20th century is shown chronologically here. Tour includes examples of the most imp. developments and styles.

Archaeological findings from the area dominate here. These include tools from the Bronze Age. Roman coins and busts. The ancient Egypt collection is impressive.

Everything you wanted to know about the Olympic Games. Photos and films with original soundtrack of events, a library and lots of souvenirs. The games must go on!.

This private collection presents around 3,000 exhibits on the history of smoking. Tobacco and opium pipes are on display as are complex rolling techniques.

Splendid art collection with approx. 15,000 exhibits, showing increasing refinement. A private collection, given to the City of Lausanne 1971 and open to the public.
