Moneglia is a comune (municipality) in the Province of Genoa in the Italian region Liguria, located about 50 km southeast of Genoa. As of 31 December 2004, it had a population of 2,804 and an area of 15.4 km².
The municipality of Moneglia contains the frazioni (subdivisions, mainly villages and hamlets) Bracco, Lemeglio, and San Saturnino.
Moneglia borders the following municipalities: Casarza Ligure, Castiglione Chiavarese, Deiva Marina, Sestri Levante.
The town is a typical enchanting Riviera resort that is perhaps beyond its heyday.
Out of season it is very quiet and a great alternative to the very expensive and more crowded towns along this delightful coast.
Moneglia's main road links to the "outside world" are via a long series of ancient tunnels through which the flow of vehicles is controlled by traffic lights.
This means that drivers can face a wait of up to twenty minutes before they get a green light to proceed.
Among some of the most illustrious citizens born here, there is Nicolo Caveri (also Canerio) who draw in 1502 a map of the "New world", discovered 10 years before by Cristoforo Colombo: the map is now held at Musee hydrographique de la Marine in Paris. (...) more....
