Amherst Center is a census-designated place and village located in the town of Amherst in Hampshire County, Massachusetts. The population was 17,050 at the 2000 census. The village is typically used to distinguish downtown Amherst from the University of Massachusetts, which lies a short distance away and tends to skew statistics, due to its high student population.
