Iran edit

From Persians to Romans to Mullahs

Ever since the days of the hippie trail, when adventurous twenty-somethings journeyed overland from continental Europe to east Asia, the graciousness of Iranian hospitality has been well known. What has unfortunately been lost amid all the rhetoric and diplomatic wrangling of recent years is the abundance of scenic destinations and archeological sites that this nation offers its visitors. However, tourist visas are relatively easy to get (if you are not US American or from Israel). Tehran, the sprawling national capital, is also Iran’s educational and cultural center, and it houses a wide variety of palaces and museums that document the Persian Empire’s past glories. Of course, none of these modern exhibits can compare to the ancient ceremonial complex of Persepolis, which also has a beautifully vibrant central bazaar and sits less than 60 miles from Shiraz.
