Cuba edit

Step back in time and enjoy a vacation like no other – an enthralling blend of old and new come together in Cuba

This Spanish-speaking island of eleven million is the Caribbean’s only communist nation. Don’t be fooled by the country’s political label, though: Cuba has a thriving tourist industry that puts many of its English-speaking neighbors to shame. Cuba has retained much of her colonial past in the majestic architecture and mile after mile of green sugar cane fields. It is a land of pounding Latin music and dance, white sand beaches, and historic sites. Scuba enthusiasts must visit the Isla de la Juventud (Isle of Youth). And what is Cuba without the fine Cuban cigar? Take a trip to Pinar del Rio and see tobacco plantations; then visit Soroa -- also called "Cuba's Rainbow" because it receives a lot of rainfall and has a majestic waterfall -- and Che Guevara’s old hideout, La Cueva de los Portales. And don’t forget Havana! Although still struggling with poor economic conditions, Havana is as vibrant and lively as any city can get. Mingle with the native Cubans while spending your evenings at El Malecon, a literal sea wall, and watch the sun go down. Some of the cabarets and nightclubs still have some flair of the 1950ies when Havana was among the hedonists’ capitals of the world. For most visitors, vacationing in Cuba is a once-in-a-lifetime experience to be savored. However, the travel embargo makes it difficult for US citizens to travel in and out of the country readily.
