Assieme alla Grand Central, questo edificio con la guglia Art Déco di acciaio inox che ricorda il radiatore di un’automobile, è passaggio obbligato per noi trovandosi lungo la strada per l’albergo. Non ci siamo mai però fermati a visitarlo, né per altro ne vale la pena. Il Chrysler Building è stato voluto dal fondatore dell’omonima casa automobilistica nel 1930 come edificio rappresentativo, tutte le decorazioni richiamato temi automobilistici come ad esempio i doccioni che riprendono i moti ornamentali della Chrysler Plymouth del 1929.

Il jetleck non ci ha fatto dormire a lungo, così di buon ora ci siamo alzati e siamo andati a New York City. Abbiamo preso nuovamente la navetta dell’albergo fino all’aeroporto e poi da lì un treno della NJ Transit che collega Newark con New York Pennsylvania Station (il costo del biglietto è di $ 15,00). In generale, per i trasporti non vi sono biglietterie ma terminali elettronici. Long-term backpackers are a really cool, interesting bunch. in the same way that I started seeing NYC from a new perspective after being away for so long, I think that being jolted back into the travelling world after a month in my old routine has gotten me thinking about what the common denominator is. Hello everybody :-)))Hier kommt die erste Meldung auf unserem Trip in den USA: NEW YORK ist der absolute Oberknaller!!!!! Man kann sich das vorher wirklich nicht vorstellen, was diese Stadt fuer eine Atmosphaere hat :-)Wir sind am Samstag gut hier angekommen. Auf dem Flug hatten wir ein Paar neben uns sitzen, Katrin und Markus aus Lippstadt bzw. Detmold...total nett. Wir haben uns dann direkt mal ein Taxi in die Stadt geteilt und Nummern ausgetauscht. Lunch "hunting" in Soho is not an easy discipline, if you want to live on the cheap (that is, for NY standards). So why not burn a few calories by walking up and down Broadway and its side streets, and just enjoy the sun and the sunny crowd...it makes your stomach forget the hunger it just had, and the crumbling stops just after a few dumplings from the corner deli. Lets see whether this works again tomorrow.

Nach 2 Tagen wissen wir ca. wo was ist. Das Studentenheim war in den ersten Tagen komplizierter als das U-Bahn Netz hier. Aber beides verstehen wir jetzt schon. Das Essen ist super. Vor allem die Auswahl. Elisabeth hat sich mit dem Salaten hier angefreundet. Soviel Mayo im Dressing, dass es sogar Fäden gezogen hat. Ich denke sie wird morgen wieder aus dem Badezimmer kommen :D Gott sei Dank ist das Fitness Center im Preis inkl. weil das braucht man hier. Am besten am Laufband essen :) Sonst.....ahja, irgendwer kocht 24h Fisch auf unserer Etage. Aber die Gerüche sind hier sowieso komisch. ...

Gestern wurden wir von unseren Freunden zum Essen und zu einem Jazz Abend eingeladen. Naja. Jazz ist sicherlich ein Muss in New York, aber nicht mein Muss :) Das Essen war eher schon meins. Barbeque. Aber Ami Portion. Nachher hätten wir nach Hause laufen sollen (100 Blocks) damit wir das ganze verdauen. Aber das Auto war besser. :) Das ist überhaupt ein Vorteil, dass wir die letzten 2 Tage mit dem Auto gefahren sind. Somit haben wir sehr schön Überblicken können, wo was ist. Einmal früh aufgewacht. Und dann das wichtigste besorgt: Modem. Scheiss langsam :( 256Kb/sec. Und ich hätte jetzt 8MBit zu Hause..... Naja, das vergiss man schnell, wenn man sich in U-Bahn reinhaut, und 45 min. nach Downtown fährt. Ausgestiegen und....... Augen auf, Mund auf. Wolkenkratzer so weit das Auge reicht. Gleich einmal am Times Square einen Cafè Latte vom Starbucks gekauft, und dann ins Toy'R'us reingeschaut. Amerika ist definitv ein Konsolenland. Aber recht geil der Toy'R'us dort.
