Walking the Brooklyn Bridge is definitely one of my favorite NYC experiences - and fortunately, I live in Brooklyn, so it's pretty convenient. If you head to DUMBO, definitely go down to the water - there's a lovely park right between the two bridges where they show movies in the summer and have a sculpture exhibit, and if you have kids - there's a great boat-shaped playground. Plus the views of Manhattan and the birdges are amazing on a sunny day.

Never, ever, ever call your rear end your fannie (it means something specific to female anatomy in Ireland-speak). And if your friends ask you if you'd like to go have some crack, 99% of the time they're actually asking if you'd like to go have fun. (They actually spell it craic). And don't ever count on a bus actually showing up in Cork city... they might speed by two at a time and be completely full after you've waited an hour fifteen instead of the 30 min that the buses are supposed to take.

Funny translations :P
The way we speak like that is because of the Irish Gaelic influence. to "give out" in the sense of complaining or scolding is a direct translation of "tabhair amach"
Note that in your example "Mary’s just after getting home from work.", the just is not necessary. Saying "Mary’s after getting home from work." is more likely. "After" implies "having just", once again from the Irish "(tá mé) tar éis..." the "apostrophe s" is TO BE not TO HAVE (like in all other English), so
I'm after finding a euro = I've just found a euro
<a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hiberno-English" rel="nofollow">Here</a> is a great detailed list of Irish differences!
