Call me crazy – in the world of carpaccio di trippa, crostini toscani, numerous fagioli bianci dishes and the infamous bistecca fiorentina, sometimes visitors crave something of different flavor. Florence and Tuscany in general is a deserving gastronomic capital of the world, yet it can be hard to find anything but Italian food. If you’re looking for something less meat-centric, or just want to switch it up a bit, here are a few places to go in Florence:
Eby’s is a latin influenced bar and restaurant (I think Eby is from Cuba) that serves up incredibly fresh meals and drinks, all topped with tropical fruits. If you’re craving a burrito, stop by.
For late night Kebab, there’s a small hole in the wall on Via Degli Alfani called simply Florence Donar Kebab (if there is even a sign). It’s open all night serving lamb, chicken or falafel – get it ‘piccante!’
Back near the main train station, on Viale Fratelli Rosselli, you’ll find great Indian food at Haveli. They’ve got both vegetarian and meat options – potions are on the small side, but they are very flavorful.
Along Via Ghibellina you’ll find Salamanca, a Spanish tapas bar that serves food late to its clientele that come to dance. Right down the street is the Darvish cafe – they serve coffee and tea, as well as Greek-inspired snacks like stuffed grape leaves.
Rose’s does serve pasta, but they’ve turned into a hip sushi bar. You can get a burger, or even veggie tacos. Located right in downtown Florence, on Via del Parione, not far from the Arno.
Though it may seem like a crime to eat anything but Tuscan-influences food in Florence, you’ll find that all these places are popular with tourists and locals alike.
