Der Automobilhersteller Lada nannte eines seiner Modelle „Samara“ und machte die Stadt (1,2 Mio. Ew.) dadurch berühmt.
Dabei werden die Fahrzeuge gar nicht hier produziert, sondern im 100 km entfernten Togliatti. Als zaristische Festung 1586 am rechten Wolgaufer gegründet, entwickelte sich Samara ab dem 18. Jh. zu einem Siedlungszentrum der Wolgadeutschen. In der Altstadt erinnert noch ein Fachwerkhaus an die Einwanderer. Samara hat sich in den vergangenen Jahren wirtschaftlich gut entwickelt und zieht zunehmend ausländische Investoren an.

Hi there, I am Dan from Australia, I have been trying to find a good hotel to stay in Samara, Samara on the Volga. I prefer ritzy places and it seems that the Renaissance Hotel suits me most of all and Holiday Inn but one thing I can’t understand especially about the latter, it concerns its overpriced rooms. Is breakfast included there? Does anyone know anything about the swimming pool? Do they have free airport shuttle for me? What is registration? May I get an invitation from the hotel?
