The volcano viewing which are strewn across Java play many important roles in the lives of local people, providing rich soils for farming, holy sites for meditation and recreational opportunities away from the heat of the cities, the “extreme” climbers from around the globe come to Java to summit even the most active one.
1. Mount Merapi (2968 meter) Sleman Regency, one of the Indonesia active and dangerous volcanoes, tours range from a few hours walk to observation points to pre-sunrise climbs to the summit (conditions permitting) to see lava flows. Observation points at Jurang Boyong, Plawangan, Kaliadem and Babadan.
